{"id":1031,"date":"2021-02-07T06:35:03","date_gmt":"2021-02-07T05:35:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/?p=1031"},"modified":"2021-04-20T23:00:33","modified_gmt":"2021-04-20T21:00:33","slug":"the-cone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/index.php\/en\/2021\/02\/07\/the-cone\/","title":{"rendered":"The \u00ab\u00a0Cone\u00a0\u00bb"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-white-color has-turquoise-background-color has-text-color has-background\">The students of Orleans have completely taken over the Cone building, recognizable by its atypical shape, located in the heart of the campus, which today houses the Radio Campus Orl\u00e9ans.<br>But what&rsquo;s its history?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Chronological Landmarks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The Cone is one of the constructions carried out following the launch of various plans to modernize French universities in the 1990s and 2000s, and more specifically the \u00ab\u00a0University 2000\u00a0\u00bb program, adopted on May 23, 1990.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This program aims to apply the decentralization process to universities through three objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1) Co-financing;<br>2) Co-responsibility;<br>3) Co-management of multiannual programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"722\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/s-l1600-722x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-474\" srcset=\"http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/s-l1600-722x1024.jpg 722w, http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/s-l1600-211x300.jpg 211w, http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/s-l1600-768x1090.jpg 768w, http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/s-l1600-1083x1536.jpg 1083w, http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/s-l1600.jpg 1127w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 722px) 100vw, 722px\" \/><figcaption>Minist\u00e8re de l&rsquo;\u00c9ducation nationale, de la recherche et de la technologie, Ville, Architecture, Universit\u00e9, r\u00e9alisation du Sch\u00e9ma Universit\u00e9 2000, \u00e9ditions le Moniteur, Savernes, 1998.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><br>As for its financing, the Cone was nearly 53% financed by local authorities &#8211; i.e. 11.6 billion francs &#8211; including 27.9% for the Region, 13.8% for the departments, and 11.3% for the cities. The state, meanwhile, contributed at 40.6% of the funding.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>A bit of architecture <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u00ab\u00a0Architecture is, with raw materials, establishing moving relations\u00a0\u00bb<\/p><cite>Le Corbusier,&nbsp;<em>in Vers une architecture<\/em>, 1923.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Although posterior to the other buildings, the Cone is fully in line with the brutalist heritage of the campus architectural ensemble, thus contributing to its overall harmony. Despite its late appearance, the cone had already been imagined by the campus architect, <a href=\"http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/index.php\/en\/2021\/04\/16\/olivier-clement-cacoub-2\/\"><em><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-gold-color\">Olivier-Cl\u00e9ment Cacoub<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, in his first plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was not realized until much later by the architect Patrice Debaque, in May 1995.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/patrice-debaque-200x200-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-468\" srcset=\"http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/patrice-debaque-200x200-1.jpg 200w, http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/patrice-debaque-200x200-1-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/patrice-debaque-200x200-1-180x180.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption>Patrice Debaque \u00a9 R\u00e9gion Centre-Val de Loire<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The architect was inspired by a first work on a cone of the same type, in Ch\u00e2tellerault, before making his counterpart from Orleans. The creation technique is special, with the use of poured concrete, used in particular to build vertical walls. Thus, the reinforced concrete is poured at its final location between two vertical formwork elements. So does its atypical shape, a truncated cone, which breaks with the geometric achievements of the buildings previously constructed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>At the Heart of the Campus<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cone, located near the premises of The <a href=\"http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/index.php\/en\/2021\/02\/07\/the-student-house-and-le-bouillon\/\"> <em><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-gold-color\">\u201cLe Bouillon\u201d and the student house<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, is located in the heart of <a href=\"http:\/\/master-patrimoine-culturel.fr\/campus-orleans-patrimoine\/index.php\/en\/2021\/04\/07\/history-of-the-establishment-of-the-campus-in-orleans-la-source\/\"><strong><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-gold-color\">the university campus<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a>, near the Forum, the ESEM, the restaurant and the university library.
